The State Medical and Pharmaceutical University «Nicolae Testemitanu» (SMPhU) of the Republic of Moldova has a history of outstanding traditions established and developed over the last 127 years. During our history, the demanding process of educating and training our medical professionals (doctors and pharmacists), to meet the national and international educational community standards has remained unchanged. Our University graduates provide high quality medical assistance and public health services at all levels of the national medical system. They are well known oversees and successfully work in many countries of Europe, America, Asia and Africa. The SMPhU is a complex institution of high medical education, accredited in the national educational system, included in the World Directory of Medical Schools of the World Health Organization, (WHO) making it eligible for the training of international students. Currently the educational and scientific staff of the University is actively involved in the implementation of national policy in the Healthcare System development Strategy approved by the Government of the Republic of Moldova. Also the University is focused on reforming its curricula, by implement ting interactive methods of training involving standardized patients and clinical cases. Because the Republic of Moldova borders other countries of the European Union, real possibilities have appeared for academic and scientific mobility of students and faculty members in those countries. The existing technical and material resources ensure the continuity of undergraduate & postgraduate education of about 6600 UG, PG and PhD students every year. The educational process is carried out at 79 clinical and preclinical departments placed in different clinical and research settings.
Chisinau, the city where the University is located, is the capital of the Republic of Moldova, a newly independent state in South- Eastern Europe. Our city has a history of over 7 centuries with a rich cultural life. Chisinau is a city of youth (more than 114,000 students study at 12 state and 11 private universities) and is placed at the economical and cultural crossroads of Europe and Asia. Our University faculty and staff are well experienced in training citizens from other countries. Requirements for these students have been placed into our medical training program, and we are proud that hundreds of graduates from over 30 countries successfully earned degrees and are licensed to practice medicine in their home countries. The educational environment for foreign citizens is very attractive – affordable tuition fees and reasonable accommodation prices including meals. There is also a well developed infrastructure in the city, including public transportation, museums, theaters, banks and modern communication facilities. The quality of life provides every citizen with a feeling of comfort and safety, which allows them to achieve their dream to become a medical professional either as a doctor, dentist or pharmacologist.
MEDICAL EDUCATION IN REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA
State Medical and Pharmaceutical University, "Nicolae Testemitanu" of the Republic of Moldova is a state funded university, where international students may study on self-finance basis subject to payment of annual tuition fee in advance and submission of attested documents by concerned authorities. The State Medical and Pharmaceutical University “Nicolae Testemitanu” of Republic of Moldova is in the list of World Directory of Medical Schools, published by the World Health Organization and has been accredited by National Council of academic Evaluation and Accreditation of the Educational Institutions from the Republic of Moldova. There are 3 faculties for undergraduate training (Medicine – 6 years, Dentistry – 5 years, Pharmacy – 5 years), preparatory course (Language plus Biology, Physics, Chemistry - 1 year) and postgraduate courses (duration depends on chosen specialty). Languages of instruction are Romanian, English, and Russian.
